Lawrence Okoro, a prominent Labour Party supporter, has declared that the ‘Obidient’ movement is the strongest in the history of Nigeria.
The ‘Obedient’ movement is the army of supporters who backed Peter Obi’s presidential ambition in the 2023 polls.
The movement’s name was coined from the LP presidential candidate’s last name.
Obi, 61, a former governor of Anambra state, was declared as the second runner-up by the Independent National Electoral Commission after the election.
Obi and his supporters have since rejected the result and are now challenging the outcome at the presidential election petition tribunal.
Okoro, an ardent supporter of the LP and a member of the Obidient movement says he is proud to be part of the group.
His words:
”Obidient is the strongest movement in the history of Nigeria. When it started, they said it would die before it starts. Obedient is one year now and we’ve recorded so many successes.
”With no political backing, we’ve been able to speak truth to power without fear, stand for the oppressed, take power back to the people, and elected our choices as state governor, state and federal legislators.
”We also did the unthinkable, the unimaginable; we won the election into the biggest office in the land – presidential election. Every Obident ran for the office of president through Mr. Peter Obi, and we won with a landslide.
”We will keep making history as the first to reclaim the mandate through the presidential election petition tribunal. I’m proud to be on this journey with every one of you. It has been one year that I will never forget in my life.”
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the LP presidential campaign council, Dr Yunusa Tanko, has debunked a report that Obi hinted at contesting for the presidency in 2027.
Tanko said that Obi never granted such an interview, as reported by some media houses.
