Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, has called outgoing Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari, ”Nigeria’s worst president ever.”
Sowore, founder of the online news agency Sahara Reporters, made the comment in a tweet on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
The human rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner has heavily criticized the Buhari administration since 2015.
However, many say Sowore is hypocritical because of his support for Buhari in the past.
Photos of Sowore and some of his associates celebrating the victory of Buhari in 2015 had surfaced online.
Many believe Sowore worked against former president Goodluck Jonathan who Buhari defeated in the 2015 presidential election.
”Yesterday, Nigeria’s worst president ever, @Mbuhari commissioned roads, projects, and bridges that hadn’t been completed, to be “smart” about it, he commissioned them virtually from his Aso Rock office.
“2nd Niger Bridge in Delta/Anambra, Lokoja-Oweto Bridge in Nassarawa/Benue, Ikom Bridge in Cross Rivers State, Kaduna-Kano road” are not completed,” the media entrepreneur tweeted.
One of Sowore’s followers on Twitter responded:
”You are one of the propagandists that brought @MBuhari to power through lies and hate against Goodluck Jonathan. You are just confused. You are among the system holding Nigeria down from moving further.”
Sowore, 52, from Ondo state, had described the 2023 general elections as a sham.
Interestingly, the former student union leader is not challenging the results of the elections at the presidential election tribunal.
