The artificial intelligence startup OpenAI has announced that it would release a new AI model on Thursday called “GPT-4o mini,” which is an attempt to increase the usage of its well-liked chatbot.
According to the company, GPT-4o small, which is faster and less expensive than OpenAI’s current state-of-the-art AI models, is available for developers as well as end users starting today via the ChatGPT website and mobile app.
The small AI model is a spin-off of OpenAI’s fastest and most powerful model, GPT-4o, which was unveiled in May during a live-streamed session with executives.
The “o” in GPT-4o refers to omni, and the business claims that GPT-4o has increased audio, video, and text capabilities, as well as the ability to handle 50 different languages at faster and higher quality.
Investors have valued OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft, at more than $80 billion.
The company, launched in 2015, is under pressure to maintain its position at the top of the generative AI market while also finding methods to generate money as it invests heavily in processors and infrastructure to construct and train its models.
The small AI model revealed Thursday is part of OpenAI’s aim to be at the forefront of “multimodality,” or the capacity to provide a diverse range of AI-generated material, such as text, graphics, audio, and video, within a single tool: ChatGPT.
GPT-4o small will be accessible to ChatGPT free users on Thursday, as well as ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers, and ChatGPT Enterprise customers the next week, according to a press statement.
