In a significant development on the political landscape of Kogi State, opposition candidates running in the forthcoming gubernatorial election have joined forces in a unified front against the ambition of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Usman Ododo.
According to the opposition figures, Ododo’s win is a third term for the incumbent governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The historic gathering occurred today in Abuja, where the opposition leaders from various parties convened to strategise and voice their concerns regarding the forthcoming election.
The united front against Ododo’s aspirations is seen as a critical step towards consolidating opposition forces and ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process in the upcoming gubernatorial election, scheduled for November.
Prominent opposition candidates and their supporters gathered in Abuja to address how to counter any attempts to manipulate the democratic process.
They emphasised the importance of upholding democratic principles and the rule of law, arguing that any attempt to circumvent term limits would undermine the democratic process and the will of the people.
They also called for a level playing field in the upcoming election, emphasising the need for free and fair elections where all candidates have an equal opportunity to compete.
”The unity demonstrated by opposition candidates today sends a strong message about their commitment to safeguarding democracy in Kogi state and ensuring that the upcoming gubernatorial election reflects the people’s will,” a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Samson Ohana, said.
