The Green Impact Exchange (GIX), the U.S.-based stock exchange dedicated to sustainability-focused enterprises, has unveiled five new board members to strengthen its leadership and governance ahead of its 2026 launch.
Among the notable additions is Oscar Onyema of Nigeria, the capital markets expert who spearheaded the transformation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and led the NGX Group’s public listing.
Other appointees include Kirk Kellogg, representing the parent company, and independent directors General William “Bill” Bender (retired), James Andrus, and Maria Mahl.
“These appointments represent a meaningful expansion of our board leadership and reinforce our mission to build a trusted, globally relevant exchange,” said Dan Labovitz, GIX Chairman and CEO.
The new directors bring expertise across ESG strategy, fintech, cybersecurity, and capital markets. General Bender, a former U.S. Air Force CIO, played a key role in tech innovation within the military and now advises several corporate boards.
James Andrus, known for his work at Franklin Templeton and CalPERS, provides insights into regulatory and governance matters. Maria Mahl, a Partner at ESG Book, brings sustainability tech experience from Arabesque and the Clinton Global Initiative.
Kellogg is a seasoned Wall Street executive with decades of financial leadership, while Onyema’s regulatory and operational knowledge spans both African and global markets.
GIX, approved by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in April 2025, aims to provide a transparent platform for companies with strong environmental commitments. The exchange will allow dual listings initially, with plans for primary listings later.
Companies must meet Green Governance Standards, including clear ESG disclosures and environmental performance metrics, to qualify.
