Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba has showered praise on Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, saying the Nigerian star reminds him of his own aggressive and fearless style of football.
When asked which player currently plays most similarly to him, the former Chelsea striker told Sporty TV that it’s the Nigerian star. Drogba couldn’t hide his admiration for Osimhen’s energy, hunger, and mentality on the pitch.
“Osimhen,” Drogba answered.
“Because of him, people from Ivory Coast complain and tell me to go with my Osimhen.
“Osimhen is the kind of person that should inspire the youth; he came from nowhere, and then (he’s successful).”
The Chelsea legend, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest strikers, said Osimhen embodies the same warrior mentality that made him a nightmare for defenders during his Premier League days.
“He reminds me of myself—the way he chases every ball, his timing, his movement, and his confidence. You can see that fire in his eyes,” Drogba added.
Drogba also praised Osimhen’s leadership and growth at Napoli, where the Nigerian forward has become a key figure since leading the club to its first Serie A title in more than three decades.
“He’s not just a goalscorer; he’s a fighter and a leader. What he’s doing at Napoli is inspiring for the next generation of African players,” Drogba said.
