The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday marked the 66th birthday of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, showering accolades on his legacy as a symbol of democracy and an esteemed global statesman.
In a statement released by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party lauded Jonathan’s commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
Acknowledging Jonathan’s pivotal role as a figure of sincerity, selflessness, humility, courage, and patriotism, the PDP highlighted his unwavering dedication to the nation’s peace, unity, and development.
The PDP celebrated Jonathan’s efforts to foster national cohesion, mutual understanding among Nigerians, and an environment conducive to economic growth and entrepreneurship.
Notably, the party praised his tenure’s economic achievements, citing the elevation of Nigeria to a $550 billion economy, ranking it the largest in Africa and 26th globally.
“Nigerians across all divides celebrate President Jonathan for his unwavering commitment in upholding democracy tenets of the Rule of Law, Separation of Powers, constitutionally guaranteed freedom and rights of citizens, the principles of justice, equity and fairness; dedication to free, fair and credible election in Nigeria in line with the manifesto and policy thrust of the PDP; credentials that are indelible in our national annals.
“Dr. Jonathan is celebrated for his efforts in strengthening the bond of unity, love, harmonious living, mutual respect and understanding among Nigerians as well as creating an atmosphere for free enterprise, which enabled our nation to thrive in all sectors under his watch.
“Our party is proud of President Jonathan’s unprecedented achievements and massive economic productivity in all sectors through which the PDP administration under his Presidency bequeathed a $550 billion economy (largest in Africa and 26th globally) at the end of his successful tenure in 2015,” the party stated.
However, the PDP expressed regret over what they termed “the erosion of these achievements under what they described as the incompetent and corrupt administrations of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
The party acknowledged Jonathan’s continued engagements on the international stage, overseeing election observation and peace missions globally, noting that it is “a testament to his democratic values and global recognition.”
The PDP concluded its statement by extending heartfelt birthday wishes to Dr. Jonathan, emphasizing their prayers for continued wisdom, good health, and happiness as he continues to serve Nigeria and humanity.
