Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has criticised state governors who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for lacking leadership ability amid the lingering crisis in the opposition party, news.ng reports.
Wike, during his speech at the PDP national convention held in Abuja on Sunday, blamed the defected governors for the collapse of the party, stating that they lacked the courage and commitment to stand firm in the face of crisis.
According to Wike, the immediate past Governor of oil-rich Rivers State, true leaders must be resolute when challenges and crises arise.
“Leadership requires commitment. What you see that has happened, defection of some governors who have left have only shown you they lack the leadership traits,” he stressed.
Wike extended the blame to Peter Obi, who jumped ship when the crisis began to brew in the PDP. He described the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) as a failure for leaving the party at a chaotic time, saying that the former Anambra State Governor ought to have remained in the party to proffer solutions rather than escaping responsibility.
“The presidential candidate of Labour Party before wanted to be president, and they gave him a platform, and that platform was Labour Party. When crisis came in Labour Party, it is that time it is required for him to show leadership. He ran away because he could not solve problems,” Wike stated.
Wike, who was visibly angry at the actions of the defected governors, said they lacked loyalty and resilience, which are qualities of a true leader.
“The same thing when our governors were looking for a platform to be governors. They became governors. When crisis came for them to show leadership, for them to show men of vision and courage, they ran away.
“This is to tell you those who can stand when there is crisis. This is to tell you when you have a wife or wives, and there are problems in your family, you do not abandon your family. You only stay there to solve the problem,” he said.
