Kelvin Odanz, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked the Labour Party (LP) to account for the donations made to it by Nigerians at home and abroad during the 2023 general elections.
LP received massive donations from Nigerians worldwide during the electioneering period.
Aisha Yesufu, an activist and member of the LP presidential campaign council, had also revealed that she was one of those in charge of the funds.
Odanz stated that since the LP pride itself as a political party different from the others, it should show transparency by letting Nigerians know what was received and how it was spent.
His words:
”Labour Party set a new record in fundraising in the last election. Millions of Naira donated by Nigerians at home and abroad. The highest ever. Has there been any breakdown/report of how all that money was spent during the election?
”For a party that brands itself as “the new order” that sought to dismantle structures of criminality, I’d expect LP to act unique and different from the traditionally corrupt PDP/APC we’ve had. So is there an audit of LP finances during the campaign? Should we expect one?”
He also queried the LP over the update of its state leaders accused of fraud and subsequently suspended.
”Were they just suspended and allowed to enjoy the millions they looted? Or there’s a criminal case filed against them by the party leadership,” he asked.
He continued:
”Remember that the traditionally corrupt APC/PDP have been suspending members who looted campaign funds.
”So LP suspending theirs is nothing special. I am interested in knowing what LP leadership has done after the suspension.”
