Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have criticised the governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde, for throwing jabs at the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar.
While speaking at an event in Port Harcourt, Governor Makinde dismissed the notion that Atiku is a unifier.
According to the governor, the real unifier is the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
The event was the reception for Wike after a thanksgiving service in his honour in the garden city.
Someone called himself Mr. Unifier, but from what I see in this room, the true unifier is Nyesom Wike. He brought everybody from north and south to this place.
The comment was targeted at Atiku, who used the phrase ‘Unifier’ during the 2023 polls.
The governor also revealed that members of the G-5 forum call Wike ‘naked wire.’
Angry PDP supporters took to social media to lament over what they call the constant disrespect of Atiku by Governor Makinde.
Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar, a prominent PDP member wrote:
”In 2019, Atiku supported Seyi Makinde financially and won the election for him. Groomed him from nobody to somebody, but look at how he has been subbing Atiku because of tribal bigotry! I detest his hypocrisy.”
Bolanle Cole wrote:
‘’Where was Makinde when Atiku was vice president in 1999? Maturity is really far from him.’’
Isah Abdullatif wrote:
”Governor Seyi Makinde, I hope you are ready for bitter politics in the future from the northerners. If not, then be ready for it because dealing with your madness and stupidity is a must.”
One of the sons of Atiku, Shehu Abubakar, also bared his thoughts. He wrote:
”Recently, the Oyo governor has made it a habit to publicly denigrate Waziri Adamawa. Incidentally, this same governor personally thanked me in 2019 when I met him at the Hilton Hotel, claiming that it was with the support of H.E Atiku that he was able to win his election. It is a shame.”
Oladipo asked a pertinent question. He wrote:
”Seyi Makinde has finally gone mad. This guy is losing it daily, so why is he downgrading Atiku Abubakar after the election?”
The G-5 governors openly worked against their party in the 2023 elections after Wike lost the PDP primary election to Atiku.
Makinde’s comments suggest members of the forum are still at loggerheads with Atiku, even aster the elections.
