Adeleke and Okon will conduct the party’s primary in order to nominate the candidate ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa and Imo. The primaries will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

The G5 governors comprising Wike, Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwanyi did not support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the presidential election over his failure to give room for the southern leadership in the party’s structure.
