Peter Obi has reminded President Muhammadu Buhari that he has the responsibility to rescue stranded Nigerians in Sudan before leaving office on May 29, 2023.
Nigerians numbering up to 4,000 are reportedly stranded in the country before war broke out between the two factions of the military junta.
And the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate has told President Buhari that he has one major task to perform before his administration comes to an end in May.

Obi said in a tweet: “I’m sad and concerned by the reports that Nigerians trapped in Sudan have not been evacuated. While we understand the extreme challenges in Sudan, we deeply implore the Federal Government of Nigeria to expedite all efforts to rescue about 4000 Nigerians that are mostly students.”
The federal government has stated that getting Nigerians out of the danger zone could be difficult due to the tension in the country.
However, a recent report revealed that plans are underway to rescue the stranded citizens by the minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission Abike Dabiri-Erewa has stated that it was impossible for any flight to land in Sudan during the current period of war.
The statement is not palatable news for Nigerian students living in Sudan as their hopes of leaving the country which is currently at war have been dashed.
The National Emergency Management had made plans to evacuate up to 1,700 students from Sudan but it was impossible for flights to land because of the war.
