Polish billionaire Rafal Brzoska and his wife are intending to sue Meta for running bogus adverts on Facebook and Instagram carrying false information about them.
The planned lawsuit, which would be the latest in a string of international attempts to hold the internet behemoth responsible for advertisements that continue to run even after users notify the company about issues, is still being considered, according to Brzoska.
When Meta discovers false advertisements on its platforms, it typically removes them, according to a representative, and collaborates with local law enforcement to combat scammers.
Brzoska, the founder of Polish parcel locker provider InPost, notified Meta of the problem in early July, but no resolution has been reached thus far.
He stated that they would seek a court order for Meta to stop benefiting from such deceptive content and demanding significant compensation to be donated to charity.
Newsng gathered that despite alerting Meta in early July, the issue persists. Brzoska wants Meta to stop profiting from these advertisements and look for payment for charitable causes.
“We plan to file a private lawsuit against Meta… We have not yet determined in which jurisdictions we will sue Meta. We will decide in the next few weeks,” Brzoska told Reuters.”
“…we are considering absolutely all scenarios, including a lawsuit in the United States if there is inaction in Europe,” he added.
Similarly, Attorney General Ken Paxton had announced that Meta had reached a record $1.4 billion settlement to resolve a lawsuit brought by the state of Texas over the improper usage of users’ biometric data by the owner of Facebook.
According to the Attorneys for Texas, whose team included the plaintiffs’ firm Keller Postman, the terms of the settlement were the largest agreement ever reached by a single state.
