The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the head of Nigeria’s delegation at the Second Indonesia-Africa Forum, taking place in Bali, Indonesia, from September 1st to 3rd, 2024.

The forum, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2023,” commemorates the historic 1955 Asian-African Conference, known as the Bandung Conference, a significant milestone in fostering solidarity and collaboration between the two continents.

The theme also aims to deepen the synergy between Indonesia’s Vision 2045 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Nigeria and Indonesia have enjoyed a strong and friendly relationship, which has grown over the years.

The partnership is underscored by Indonesia’s designation of Nigeria as its primary African investment destination from 2022 to 2026, reflecting Indonesia’s recognition of Nigeria’s economic potential and investment-friendly environment. The trade volume between the two countries reached USD 6 billion in 2023, up from USD 4 billion a decade ago.

Indonesia’s support for Nigeria extends beyond trade. In 2023, Indonesia donated 1.58 million doses of the Pentavalent vaccine, valued at nearly USD 2 million, to Nigeria. The generous contribution has been crucial in Nigeria’s efforts to protect its children from life-threatening diseases.

During his visit to Indonesia, Idris will showcase Nigeria’s investment potential across various sectors and highlight the socio-economic achievements of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He will also advocate for increased opportunities for Nigerian businesses to engage actively in the Indonesian economy.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the event, Minister Mohammed stated, “I look forward to representing His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the government and people of Nigeria at the Second Indonesia Africa Forum.

“I am confident that this forum will serve as yet another memorable milestone in the journey towards strengthened bonds between Indonesia and Nigeria, as well as Africa as a whole.”

The Second Indonesia-Africa Forum is expected to further solidify the longstanding ties between Indonesia and African nations, fostering greater collaboration and mutual benefits.

Meanwhile, to enhance Nigeria-Australia relations in the mining sector, the Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Leilani Bin-Juda, paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Dele Alake.

During the visit, High Commissioner Bin-Juda extended a formal invitation to Dr Alake to attend the prestigious African Down Under (ADU) conference, scheduled to take place in Perth, Australia, from September 4th to 6th, 2024.

The ADU conference is a leading event that brings together key stakeholders in Africa’s mining sector, providing a platform for discussions on investment opportunities, technological advancements, and bilateral cooperation.
