President Bola Tinubu is set to commission three vital gas infrastructure projects undertaken by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and partners.
A statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, highlighted the significance of the projects in supporting the government’s efforts to harness the nation’s gas resources and eliminate gas flaring.
Part of the statement read: “One of the projects, the AHL Gas Processing Plant 2 (GPP – 2), an expansion to the Kwale Gas Processing Plant, is designed to process 200MMscf/d of rich gas and deliver lean gas through the OB3 Gas Pipeline.
“This project, developed by AHL Limited, will also produce propane and butane, reducing the dependency on LPG imports.
“The second project, the ANOH Gas Processing Plant (AGPC), is an integrated facility with a 300MMscf/d capacity to process non-associated gas from the Assa North-Ohaji South field in Imo State.
“Once operational, this plant will significantly increase domestic gas supply, driving power generation and industrialization.
“Lastly, the ANOH-OB3 CTMS Gas Pipeline Project involves the construction of a transmission gas pipeline to evacuate dry gas from the ANOH primary treatment facility to the OB3 Custody Transfer Metering Station. This pipeline, with an estimated capacity of 600MMscf/d, will enhance gas supply to the domestic market.
“These projects are expected to increase gas supply by approximately 500mmscf/d upon commissioning, fostering a conducive investment climate and promoting balanced economic growth.”
The statement added that President Tinubu is committed to leveraging gas as a driver of economic prosperity to harness the nation’s resources for sustainable development.
Newsng had earlier reported that Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), recently reiterated the necessity of gas infrastructure development for economic stimulation and diversification.
In a sectoral retreat on ministerial deliverables held in Abuja last month, Ekpo highlighted the pivotal role of expanding Nigeria’s gas infrastructure network in attracting investment and unlocking new economic growth and diversification opportunities.
Given its abundant natural resources, he stressed that the nation should be able to handle energy poverty.
