Premier League champions Liverpool have confirmed that striker Alexander Isak has successfully undergone surgery following a fibula fracture sustained during their 2–1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Swedish forward was injured immediately after scoring the opening goal, when Spurs defender Micky van de Ven made contact with him just as Isak struck the ball into the net. He remained on the pitch for treatment but was unable to continue and was eventually substituted.

Liverpool said in a statement on Monday that the operation, which addressed an ankle injury including a fibula fracture, was completed successfully. “Alexander Isak today successfully underwent surgery on the injury he sustained on Saturday. His rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return,” the club added.

The 26-year-old’s recovery timeline has not been confirmed, though he is expected to be sidelined for several months. The injury represents a major setback for Isak, who has faced fitness challenges since joining Liverpool.

The striker moved to Anfield in the summer from Newcastle United in a £130 million transfer, making him the club’s record signing. His arrival was seen as a key addition to bolster Liverpool’s attacking options.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will now need to adjust his frontline as the squad awaits Isak’s rehabilitation, which will be closely monitored at the club’s AXA Training Centre.

This latest injury is a blow for both Isak and Liverpool, who will be hoping their record signing can make a full recovery and regain full fitness to contribute in the second half of the season.
