The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government regarding the persistent advocacy by Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for dialogues with terrorists and bandits responsible for the rampant kidnapping of school children and the targeting of innocent citizens through coordinated attacks.
HURIWA urged President Bola Tinubu to unequivocally reject Gumi’s calls for pardoning or bribing terrorists, likening it to the Amnesty program in the Niger Delta.
The group dismissed Gumi’s suggestions as unconstitutional, illegal, and reprehensible, emphasizing that the Niger Delta Amnesty was justified by environmental degradation and armed struggles, unlike the baseless demands for Fulani terrorists.
According to HURIWA, Gumi’s proposal to fund an Amnesty program for Fulani terrorists using revenues from crude oil resources in the Niger Delta is fallacious and criminal, deserving outright dismissal.
The group condemned Gumi as a sympathizer of terrorists, accusing him of failing to condemn the violent acts perpetrated by armed Fulani militiamen in the North-West region.
HURIWA criticized Gumi for consistently advocating for terrorists and misdirecting his efforts.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA questioned Gumi’s contradictory statements, noting his claim of easy access to terrorists while also stating that they are unknown.
The group labelled this as fallacious and demanded clarification from Gumi.
HURIWA urged the government to disregard Gumi’s misguided advocacy and instead focus on combating terrorism through legal and constitutional means.
