The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced that it is going to follow strategic ways to protect highway users, especially this Christmas season.
The corp says it is set to establish about 115 facilities which include traffic clash clinics, road signs, creating awareness and arresting road traffic offenders among others.
The rescue division of the FRSC revealed that the corps are responsible for reducing accidents on the road which commonly lead to spine and brain injuries resulting from accidents. Chika Okwuolisa, a health personnel of the rescue team called on the government to create measures aimed at managing brain and spine injury patients as well as alleviating the suffering such victims face.
A statement by the corp during a conference in Abuja explained that the accidents leading to brain and spine injuries caused a lot of problems and pains to the victims disrupting their lives which called for concerns towards ways to eliminate further accidents.
A neurosurgeon at the Federal Medical Center located in Jabi, Dr Mbamalu Chibuike also outlined that good roads, effective delivery of FRSC duties and trained drivers will drastically reduce the rate of accidents on the roads, he added that the provision of mobile clinics will also aid support to road accident victims.
The corp also called on the government to provide neurological rehabilitation centres and participation with various agencies via the use of technology to avoid road accidents.
A presentation also called on road users to avoid certain activities that can carry away their attention while driving and to avoid drugs and alcohol before plying the road.
