The decision to allow goalkeeper Andre Onana to go on loan to Turkish team Trabzonspor was made with the best interests of the player’s career and the club’s long-term goals in mind, according to Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

After Onana continuously failed to make an impression at Manchester United under Amorim as the rivalry for the No. 1 shirt grew more fierce, he made a high-profile move to Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was chosen in goal at the start of the new season, and Onana was immediately removed from the Premier League starting lineup.

Onana made just one appearance for the team this season, against Grimsby Town in the League Cup, and the Red Devils’ shocking exit was another occasion when his performance drew harsh criticism.

Ahead of United’s Premier League match on Sunday, Amorim told the media on Friday that Onana’s departure from Old Trafford was only natural.
