Former Italy head coach Arigo Sacchi and ex-Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero both differ on the performance of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his team Napoli against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League match.
Osimhen fired blanks for his Serie A team Napoli in their 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League tie on Tuesday at Camp Nou in Spain.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi responded to the striker’s performance in the match by stating that Osimhen’s contributions versus Barca were less impactful.
He said, “What surprised me the most was the little involvement of Kvara and Osimhen, the two most-awaited players,” Sacchi wrote in his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It’s true that they didn’t get much service, but at the same time, they didn’t move much, and they did it in the wrong way, so it was easy for opponents to stop them.”
Del Piero, who also watched the game, expressed dissatisfaction with Osimhen’s performance; however, he maintains that the player’s output was a product of the team’s collective effort.
“The commitment was maximum, but aside from that, it was a bad match. He ended up offside so many times, which was a bit excessive, even if his job was to stay on the line and attack deep,” Del Piero said per Napoli Magazine.
“You may feel down, but his qualities are unquestionable. In general, he is in a very negative season for Napoli, and therefore, he hasn’t faced everything that has happened in this season with a smile, but his attitude has always been positive.”
