Former Nigerian international Samson Yebowei Siasia has signalled his interest in becoming the next coach of the senior national team of Nigeria nicknamed the Super Eagles.
Siasia who made this known in a chat with the Nigerian media noted that as a football-loving country, we need to identify our priorities as a nation so our sports can move forward.
The former Nantes of France striker who has coached the Super Eagles on two occasions, however, noted that he is not the messiah that will save Nigerian football.
“I am not a Messiah, however, we need to sit down and identify our priorities,” he said on Kennis FM’s 104.1 Sports Salsa.
“We will see how things unfold.” The 57-year-old regarded as Nigeria’s third-best scorer said.

This comes days after Siasia completed a five-year ban imposed on him by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
Recall that due to accusations of accepting bribes and manipulating matches, FIFA permanently barred the 57-year-old coach from all football-related activity on August 16, 2019. But once his appeal was considered, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) subsequently lowered the punishment to five years.
The Court of Appeals dismissed the argument that a life sentence was excessive for a first offence that was committed quietly and had no immediate negative impact on football stakeholders.
Instead, the CAS panel concluded at the time that a five-year ban would still serve the intended purpose of holding the seasoned coach accountable for his actions.
