On Tuesday, the Senate witnessed a minor incident in which Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip, was removed from the Chamber after being overruled by the President of the Senate.
Akpabio had invoked Rule 54 of the Rules Procedure and Ndume tried to draw the President’s attention to the conduct of business in the Chamber, which was against the rules.
He had said, “Mr President, there exist certain things which we carry out in this Chamber which are opposing the rules, sir, no one is too knowledgeable not to make mistakes.
“However, Akpabio quickly ruled Ndume out of order, prompting Ndume to storm out of the Chamber and return to his office.
As he was settling down to his seat, a colleague called him to return to the Chamber for an executive session, which had not yet taken place at the time of writing.
