Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has rallied Nigerians to embrace accountability and actively shape the nation’s future in the coming year.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a statement, highlighted the imperative of citizen engagement and governmental accountability.
The senator began by acknowledging personal trials, including surviving a near-fatal motor accident and facing electoral injustices, emphasizing the need to transcend personal hardships and focus on collective progress.
Drawing attention to recent tragic events, such as the Tudun Biri Kaduna drone strike and the devastating attacks in Plateau that claimed numerous lives, the senator stressed the urgency of holding accountable those responsible for such occurrences.
Addressing the Nigerian populace, especially the youth, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged citizens to harness their power, intelligence, and intuition to effect change within defined civil spaces.
She emphasized the role of citizen-led initiatives in revolutionizing industries, drawing parallels between the success of the music industry and the potential for advancements in science, technology, and alternative medicine.
The senator underscored the importance of scrutinizing international agreements and governmental contracts to prevent mishaps and ensure the nation’s progress. She also advocated for regular interactions with the president to voice developmental ideas and opinions.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan passionately urged Nigerians to monitor governmental budgets and contracts diligently, emphasizing that every borrowed kobo impacts present and future generations.
Encouraging empathy and action, she reminded citizens to remember those in distress and to be concerned about the plight of others across various regions.
She added: “Remember Nigeria is ours to fix. Remember the dead of yesterday could be us tomorrow.
”Remember politicians’ promises are only as real as you make them by demanding accountability and recalling the unperforming amongst us.
”In 2024, intentionally critique the budget … follow the money… monitor the contracts.
”Know that every single kobo borrowed to fund the budget is a debt on all of us, including the unborn children. So, treat governance seriously. Your democratic rights don’t end at the polls… it starts there. Be involved; we shall work with you!!!”
