Shagari: Peter Obi can’t win 2023 presidential election

Mukhtar Shagari, the former deputy governor of Sokoto state, has said that the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, cannot win at the poll.

Shagari, a former minister for water resources, made this assertion on ChannelsTv on Tuesday, October 11.

He said the Labour Party had contacted him to be the vice-presidential candidate, but he rejected the offer after weighing the possibility of Obi’s victory at the poll.

According to him, anyone who must emerge as president of Nigeria must belong to either the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I looked at the political scenario, what Labour Party is, and decided that I cannot be the vice-presidential candidate to Peter Obi,” Shagari said.

“I do not see the path through which Peter Obi will win the election in this country. It is so clear that in areas in the South-East, and young people are shouting about him on social media – yes, it’s politics.

“But the truth of the matter is that there are two dominant parties in this country – APC and PDP. If you want to become President, I think you must belong to one of them,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has unveiled the members of its presidential campaign council.
