Tonye Barcanista, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has advised Dayo Israel, the national youth leader of the All Progressives. Congress (APC) to avoid confrontations with Seyi Tinubu.
Reports have shown that the duo are at loggerheads over the vacant youth minister position.
The situation is said to have caused the creation of factions among the ruling party’s youths.
Barcinista, however, cautioned Israel that he can’t win the battle against the president’s son.
He urged the APC national youth leader to focus on his position in the party and avoid a confrontation with the younger Tinubu.
His words:
“Looks like there is a supremacy battle amongst the APC youth wing between loyalists of Youth Leader Dayo Isreal and Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, over the vacant youth ministry.
“My advice to Mr Dayo Israel: Shelve any ongoing battle with Seyi over the ministerial nomination. You have to realise that being the National Youth Leader of his Party does not confer on you the right to the Youth Affairs ministry.
“As a matter of fact, no Youth Leader of a ruling Party has transmuted to become the minister of youth affairs since the 4th Republic in 1999.
“While I understand that it is an APC affair, I am only speaking from the position that our contemporaries should not be fighting over something that may end up destroying our political growth.”
Recall that some youths had urged President Bola Tinubu to allow the APC youth leaders to contribute to the choice of the position (minister of youths).
“While we thank you for the privilege and confidence so far extended to the youth constituency, it is our prayers that you consider our appeal on this very important matter.
“We wish you continued greatness and success in the service of our beloved fatherland,” the youths stated in a letter to Tinubu.
