World No. 4 lawn tennis player Jannik Sinner has reassured fans about his fitness after sparking concern with an awkward on-court issue at the Shanghai Masters.
The Italian star, who has been in blistering form this season, appeared uncomfortable during his latest match, prompting speculation that he might be struggling with a physical problem.
Just one day after winning the China Open, Jannik Sinner has already traveled to the ever bustling city of Shanghai to defend his championship.
Although the world No. 2’s admission of having some uncomfortable stomach issues in Beijing caused some anxiety, he easily defeated Learner Tien to win the trophy in Wednesday’s final.
Now that he is the defending champion, Sinner is hoping his health problems won’t catch up with him at the Shanghai Masters.
After beating Alex de Minaur in the Beijing semi-final earlier this week, Sinner revealed: “It’s nothing serious.
“I had some diarrhoea the last couple of days. I lost some liquids. But I feel good. Was also a bit of tension. The mix of tension and the past couple days were not easy.”
On Thursday morining, Sinner gave a positive update on his health, but admitted he didn’t know how he’d feel in a match.
“Yeah, I feel good. I said it before the final that I’m ready for the final, and so it was. Here, it’s different. It’s more humid, it’s hotter,” he said.
