Nigeria’s Sports Minister John Enoh has decried the decision by German-born coach Bruno Labbadia not to take up his role as the new tactician of the Super Eagles.

John Enoh who was reacting to the decision made by Bruno Labbadia in a recent interview with Arise TV said that his decision to walk out of the Super Eagles job is ‘embarrassing and regrettable’.

He stated that immediately after Labbadia turned down the offer to coach the Super Eagles, he reached out to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to find out why the German was publicly announced as coach of the senior national team when his appointment had not been concluded.

“This was very embarrassing and regrettable,” Enoh admitted on Arise TV.

” I immediately got across to the NFF on this and asked why go public on an appointment of a coach when you have not concluded.

“Their defence is that they got a commitment from the coach on this.” He added.

The 58-year-old strategist was supposed to lead Nigeria in this month’s African Nations Cup AFCON 2025 doubleheader against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The NFF claims that an agreement was reached, but it fell through due to Labbadia’s insistence on receiving payment for his taxes from both Germany and Nigeria.
