Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has etched his name into football history after becoming the Nigerian player with the most appearances in the Premier League, surpassing legends like Nwankwo Kanu and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
The 29-year-old midfielder achieved the milestone on Saturday night when he featured in Fulham’s 1–0 defeat to his former club Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The match marked Iwobi’s 274th Premier League appearance, officially making him Nigeria’s most featured player in the English top flight.
Iwobi, who began his career at Arsenal before moving to Everton and later Fulham, has now overtaken Kanu (273), with Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252) and John Mikel Obi (249) rounding out the top five.
During Fulham’s match against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium earlier this month, the 29-year-old tied Kanu’s record. It took him 11 Premier League seasons to accomplish the feat, and he did so with three separate teams (Fulham, Everton, and Arsenal).
Fans and fellow players flooded social media to celebrate the achievement, hailing Iwobi’s consistency, longevity, and work ethic in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Iwobi’s feat further cements his status as one of Nigeria’s most reliable exports in modern football—a journey that began as a teenage prodigy under Arsène Wenger and continues to shine at Fulham.
