After a successful stint with Turkish club Fenerbahçe, Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel has officially signed a three-year contract with Birmingham City, marking his return to English football.

The Championship side is actively strengthening its roster for the upcoming season, and the versatile 27-year-old full-back becomes their fifth summer signing.

The ambition of Birmingham City’s owner, Tom Wagner, and head coach, Chris Davies, played a major role in Osayi-Samuel’s decision to join the Blues as a free agent following the expiration of his contract in Turkey.

“I spoke to the owner, I spoke to the manager, and it’s a project with ambitions about what they want to do,” Osayi-Samuel said.

“Of course, they did well last season getting promoted, and the ambition is not just to compete, but to get straight to the Premier League. Those are my ambitions too.

“I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do, and I think Birmingham City are giving me a platform to showcase that. So I think those are the main reasons I decided to come here,” he added.

The Super Eagles defender, who has 22 caps for Nigeria, is expected to join his new teammates at their training camp in Portugal as they prepare for the new Championship campaign.

Osayi-Samuel is no stranger to English football; he progressed through Blackpool’s youth system before joining Championship side QPR in 2017, where he made over 100 appearances at Loftus Road.
