Seven years after his first loan stint with Nantes, Nigerian international defender Chidozie Awaziem is allegedly close to joining the French Ligue 1 team again.

The 28-year-old is anticipated to sign a three-year contract as part of the move, which would be a major comeback to a team where he had previously left a good impression.

Awaziem, who has played as a journeyman for many teams in Turkey, Spain, Croatia, and the US (most recently with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer), is seeking stability in Nantes.

The defender’s return comes at a critical moment for the French team, especially after Moses Simon, a fan favourite and fellow Super Eagles star, recently left.

French publication L’Équipe and Daily Post Nigeria have reported that Awaziem will take Simon’s place after Simon recently said an emotional goodbye to Nantes.

Awaziem’s experience and adaptability in the backline are anticipated to strengthen Nantes’ team for the upcoming season, even though Simon’s departure creates a big hole in attack and leadership.

Awaziem’s transfer back to Nantes marks the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship, as they both aim to achieve steady success in the French Ligue 1.
