Talented Nigerian international forward Henry Onyekuru has signed a two-year contract with Gençlerbirliği, a top-flight football team in the Turkish Süper Lig.
The 28-year-old winger, who has had successful stints with Turkish powerhouses Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor in the past, is returning to familiar ground with the transfer.
On Monday, July 21, 2025, Gençlerbirliği, who had just been promoted back to the top flight, posted a welcoming message on their official website and social media accounts announcing the signing: “Ankara’s new face, new star, welcome Henry Onyekuru.”
After his contract with Al-Fayha in the Saudi Arabian Professional League expired, Onyekuru left the team and signed with the “Reds and Blacks” as a free agent.
The team is apparently relying on his vast experience in Turkish football as well as around Europe, and his addition is anticipated to greatly enhance Gençlerbirliği’s attacking options.
Onyekuru is well known for his lightning-fast speed and versatility in the Süper Lig, having played both forward and left wing.
He made 71 appearances during his various stints with Galatasaray, recording 12 assists and 22 goals, which helped the team win a domestic double in the 2018–19 campaign.
