Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped further down the pecking order, falling to 45th position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Thursday.
The drop reflects the team’s inconsistent run of form in recent international fixtures, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in October.
The three-time African champions were previously ranked 44th but lost ground after a string of mixed results, including a draw against South Africa and a win against Rwanda.
In Africa, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are now ranked sixth behind North African powerhouse Morocco (1st), Senegal (2nd), Egypt (3rd), Algeria (4th) and Côte d’Ivoire (5th).
Analysts say the latest ranking highlights the urgent need for stability and stronger performances if Nigeria hopes to reclaim its status as a continental powerhouse.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to issue a formal response, but pressure is mounting on the coaching crew to deliver consistent results. For many supporters, the drop to 45th is a painful reminder that talent alone is not enough without structure, discipline, and a winning mentality.
