Nigerian centre-back Leonard Ngenge has described his recent transfer to Premier League side Leeds United as the biggest step of his football career.

The West Yorkshire club confirmed Ngenge’s signing on Tuesday, with the defender joining from Nigeria Professional Football League champions Remo Stars.

Speaking to Leeds United’s official website, Ngenge expressed excitement about the move and a desire to make an immediate impact.

“I am excited. It is a big step for me—the biggest step of my career right now—and I hope to start perfectly,” Ngenge said. “It is a huge opportunity, and hopefully I get to utilise it to do better for the club, represent the club, and be part of the great things they set out to achieve.”

The 21-year-old also praised Leeds’ rich history and iconic players, referencing Ghanaian striker Tony Yeboah among those who inspired him.

“I know they have tons of history,” he said. “I heard about players like Tony Yeboah who scored lots of goals. I know they are a good club.”

A left-footed defender, Ngenge highlighted his defensive style, promising to show his tackling prowess and physicality in front of the goalkeeper.

“I like to show my tackling abilities, getting the body in the way and doing everything to cover the goalkeeper,” he added.

Leeds United hope Ngenge’s arrival will strengthen their defensive options as they compete in one of Europe’s toughest leagues.
