After suffering a serious abdominal injury in May, Nigerian international player and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has fully recovered and resumed training.
The 27-year-old forward had been out of commission for more than two months because of an intestinal rupture that required an induced coma and a difficult two-phase surgical procedure.
In May 2025, while trying to score in a keenly contested Premier League game for his club, Nottingham Forest, Awoniyi collided with a goalpost and sustained an injury.
His first stage of surgery was completed soon after the event, and he was placed in a medically induced coma so that his condition could be continuously monitored and his recuperation aided.
After the first treatment, the second portion of the surgery, which involved closing the incision, was successfully finished on the third day after the incident.
After a challenging and closely monitored recovery period, Awoniyi has now rejoined his Nottingham Forest teammates on the training pitch. His return to full fitness was announced by “Soar Super Eagles” post shared on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Taiwo Awoniyi returns to full training after that serious abdominal injury in May. Great to see him back on the grass.”
As the new football season draws near, this news is a huge boost for both Nottingham Forest and the Nigerian Super Eagles. In past seasons, Awoniyi was a key player for Forest, and his recuperation will be essential to their future campaigns.
