Wayne Rooney believes Michael Carrick would immediately command respect in the Manchester United dressing room, insisting his pedigree and achievements speak for themselves.
Speaking about Carrick’s standing at the club, Rooney said the former midfielder’s history at Old Trafford would ensure that players listened to him, regardless of their status or experience.
“Michael Carrick walks into that dressing room and he commands respect, regardless of what level of player he’s talking to,” Rooney said. “He’s been there, he’s done it at Manchester United, he’s an example to those players. The players will listen to him.”
Rooney highlighted Carrick’s trophy-laden career with United, noting that his honours place him among an elite group in the club’s history.
“He’s won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup and Europa League. He’s won everything,” Rooney added.
The former United captain then underlined Carrick’s unique status by pointing out that only two players at the club have achieved that complete set of honours.
“There are only two players at Manchester United who have ever done that,” Rooney said. “And I’m the other one.”
