TikTok is allegedly testing a new reward system that will keep users on the platform for far longer. This system is comparable to Snapchat.
TikTok confirmed that it is testing the streaks feature with a small number of users in certain areas, but did not make an official announcement.
Those who frequently use Snapchat would recognise that moniker, according to a TechCrunch story, since that app also has a streaks feature that is dependent on how frequently two users direct message one another.
When you directly message someone on TikTok for longer than three days in a row, a streak badge will show up next to the conversation. Likewise, should neither party DM the other for 24 hours, the badge will disappear.
When a day passes without any messages in a conversation, the streak ends. TikTok reminds users to continue their streak before it expires.
In the past, friends have used Snapchat streaks as a status symbol to demonstrate their closeness and frequency of communication. TikTok is attempting to elicit a similar feeling with its interpretation of streak.
Recall that TikTok is presently the subject of many regulatory investigations in the US and the EU due to claims that it has implemented “addictive” features to entice kids to use the app.
EU commissioners have threatened to take TikTok to court over its “reward-to-watch” scheme, which offers users incentives to spend more time on the website in exchange for cash.
The programme was later halted by TikTok in the EU, however, it is still accessible in Asia and other regions.
We earlier reported that the short video platform has pulled off a significant coup with the arrival of Donald Trump on the app.
The presumed Republican nominee’s first video, which he broadcast at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 302 in New Jersey, had more than 32 million views in a couple of hours.
