Betta Edu, a medical doctor from Cross River state, has been nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a minister.
Edu, 36, is the current women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She is also the second APC National Working Committee member in the ministerial list alongside the Acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
She is also the second minister from her home state, alongside Senator John Owan Enoh.
Her meteoric rise in politics has been linked to her philanthropy, performance in previous offices and loyalty to her party.
She was Cross River State Commissioner for Health until her resignation in 2022.
Dr Edu as Commissioner for Health in Cross River, managed the COVID-19 pandemic in her state as the chairman of the Coronavirus Response Taskforce, where she performed exceptionally well.
She was also the National Chairman of the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum.
Given her background as a medical doctor, there are speculations that she would be posted to the health ministry.
Others say that due to her current position as the APC’s women leader, she might be deployed to the women’s affairs ministry.
