President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-level Federal Government delegation, led by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to Majia town in Jigawa State following a catastrophic fire on Tuesday night that resulted in the loss of over 100 lives.

The team includes the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Alkali, and other top officials.

Their mission is to assess the aftermath and ensure immediate relief for those affected.

The delegation will visit the site of the tragedy and hospitals treating around 50 injured victims.

President Tinubu has also ordered the delivery of emergency assistance, including medical supplies, food, and shelter, to those impacted by the inferno.

The President extended his condolences to the grieving families and people of Jigawa, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and comfort for the bereaved.

In the wake of this disaster, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revising fuel transportation safety protocols across the nation.

The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has been directed to intensify night patrols and enforce stricter safety regulations to prevent future incidents.

The President stressed that anyone found responsible for violating safety standards would be held accountable.

Officials say the tragedy has prompted an urgent review of highway safety measures, emphasizing the government’s determination to prevent a recurrence of such a devastating event.

Recall that Vice President Kashim Shettima recently inaugurated the National Road Safety Advisory Council (NaRSAC) with a call for the adoption of global best practices to reduce traffic crashes and improve road safety in Nigeria.

In his address during the ceremony, Vice President Shettima emphasized the importance of road safety as a national priority.

“Road safety is not merely a matter of policy but a critical part of the lifeline that connects the people of this nation,” he stated.
