Bola Tinubu, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has promised to “recharge” Lake Chad if elected in 2023.

Lake Chad, a major source of livelihood for Nigerians in the northeast, is said to have shrunk over 90 per cent of its original size over the past sixty years.

Experts have blamed the rising insecurity in the region to the shrinking of the water body.

But speaking at the flag off of Kolman Integrated Development in Bauchi state, Tinubu noted that “recharging” the Lake Chad would help solve the problems of hunger and insecurity in the region.

“Your (Buhari) various regrets each time we discuss is the challenge of hunger and terrorism, you talk about Lake Chad. Let me assure you, if I am elected the president, I will recharge Lake Chad,” Tinubu announced.

The former Lagos state governor promised to stand on Buhari’s footprint and improve on the legacies of the present administration.

“Let me assure you I will continue to hold on to that renewed hope and carry forward where you left the footprints,” Tinubu announced.

Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari had flagged off the project, which heralds the beginning of oil exploration in Bauchi and Gombe statesss.
