Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support his ambition to become Nigeria’s leader at the 2023 polls.
Tinubu said this while speaking at an interactive session with northern groups at the Arewa House in Kaduna on Monday, October 17.
The APC presidential candidate noted that Atiku’s ethnic-laced comment has whittled down his chances of winning the 2023 contest.
Atiku had said that the north needs a northern president and not an Igbo or Yoruba person to lead Nigeria in 2023.
“You (Atiku) started from Uyo and now ended up in Kaduna and you are speaking to the north that you are the right candidate for the north; how do we reconcile that? You have lost the election,” Tinubu said.
“It’s payback time. Let Atiku endorse me instead of campaigning in Kaduna. I supported him in 2007,” the APC flagbearer added.
The interactive session was organized for top presidential candidates by a coalition of six groups from the North namely Arewa Consultative Forum, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Northern Elders Forum, Arewa House, Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, Arewa Research and Development Project.
Present at the event was Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
