Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has again turned down an invitation to attend a town hall meeting organized by AriseTV.
Recall that Tinubu had earlier refused to show up at an earlier town hall meeting to address Nigerians on his plans for the country if he emerges president in 2023.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, director of media for the APC presidential campaign council, Tinubu said he was busy with campaigns adding that there was no tie for town hall debates at the time.
The television station recently extended another invitation to the APC presidential flagbearer which he has, again, turned down.
In another statement by his Onanuga, Tinubu noted that there was no prior consultation before the invitation was sent.
Describing the invitation as reckless, Onanuga maintained that the said town hall was a plot by AriseTV to fit Tinubu into its own agenda.
According to the statement, Tinubu has been speaking with different groups at specific town hall meetings since the launch of his presidential campaign by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Till date, over seven town hall meetings with strategic sectors have been held across the geopolitical zones, where the candidate and his running mate have spoken about their programmes,” the statement said.
“These direct engagements will continue before the election on 25 February 2023. We, therefore, urge Arise News to stop using our candidate’s name or portrait in its advertisement, forthwith.”
