In an open letter addressed to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a concerned citizen, Comrade Abba Abiyos Roni, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate not to waver in his commitment to the fight for democracy, economic reform, and justice in Nigeria.
In the letter, Mr Abiyos Roni acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by Atiku for the cause of democracy in Nigeria from 1999 to the present day.
He emphasised that the sacrifices should not be in vain and that the promises and commitments made by Atiku to the Nigerian people remain of paramount importance.
One key issue addressed in the open letter is Atiku’s recent statement regarding his willingness to drop the legal battle against Bola Tinubu if the Supreme Court ruled in Tinubu’s favour regarding the certificate saga.
While respecting the legal process and the judiciary, Mr Abiyos Roni implored Atiku not to lose sight of his promises to Nigerians, particularly the commitment to reclaim a “robbed mandate.”
The letter highlights several significant policy proposals made by Atiku in the past, such as the privatisation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the removal of subsidies, both of which, according to Mr Abiyos Roni, were met with political manipulation and lacklustre execution by others.
Additionally, Mr Abiyos Roni commended Atiku’s past role as Chair of the National Economic Council (NEC) from 2000 to 2007, which resulted in remarkable economic growth.
He emphasised that Nigeria requires Atiku’s economic acumen to revitalise the nation’s economy.
”Sir, we implore you not to abandon us in these trying times. The fight to reclaim our stolen mandate is a noble cause, and we believe in your ability to lead us toward justice and democracy.
”We should not surrender our future to those who may lack the qualifications they claim to possess.
”On behalf of countless Nigerians who share these sentiments, I implore you to stay steadfast in your commitment to our great nation. We stand with you in this fight for justice and eagerly await your continued leadership and guidance,” he added.
