Tony Elumelu, a prominent business leader and philanthropist, has categorically denied recent rumours suggesting he is being considered for the position of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor.
In a tweet posted on his official Twitter account, Mr Elumelu refuted the claim as “false news.”
The rumours had surfaced on social media, with an individual named Imran Muhammad suggesting that President Bola Tinubu was contemplating Elumelu as a potential candidate for the CBN governor position.
However, Mr Elumelu addressed the speculation, clarifying that there was no truth to the rumour.
Elumelu, a respected figure in the Nigerian business community and known for his entrepreneurship and philanthropic efforts, significantly influences various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
While his name has been associated with key positions in the past, this particular rumour has been debunked by Mr. Elumelu himself.
The official status of the appointment for the CBN governor position remains to be determined.
Former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele is still detained by the Department of State Security (DSS).
Kingsley Obiora, one of the deputy governors of the apex bank was also recently arrested by the secret police.
