Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has completed a transfer to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, marking the next step in his fast-rising European career.

The Black Sea Storm confirmed the deal on Wednesday, announcing that an agreement had been reached with Austrian club Wolfsberger AC and the player for a permanent move.

“An agreement has been reached with Wolfsberger AC club and the player himself regarding the definitive transfer of professional football player Chibuike Nwaiwu to our club,” Trabzonspor said in a statement published on its official website.

Nwaiwu joins a growing Nigerian contingent at Trabzonspor, linking up with compatriots Paul Onuachu, Kazeem Olaigbe, and Anthony Nwakaeme, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new Super Lig campaign.

The 22-year-old defender moved to Wolfsberger AC from Enyimba in 2024, having established himself as one of the standout defenders in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

During his time at Enyimba, Nwaiwu played a key role in the club’s NPFL title triumph in the 2022/24 season, a success that helped earn him his first move to Europe.

He further enhanced his profile in Austria by winning the Austrian Cup in the 2024/25 season, with his performances attracting interest from abroad and ultimately paving the way for his switch to Turkish football.
