Adewole Adebayo, Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has dismissed the petitions against President Bola Tinubu at the presidential election tribunal.
Adebayo, a legal practitioner, described the move to reverse Tinubu’s electoral victory as ‘wishful fantasies.’
He said the move by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party wouldn’t amount to anything.
According to him, the president would be affirmed by the courts, noting that the focus should now be on the policies of the Tinubu-led administration.
His words:
”Why am I bothering myself with policy ideas for President Bola Tinubu?
Firstly, all governments must succeed for Nigeria to survive.
”Secondly, President Tinubu will be affirmed by the courts, and we have to live with him and bury wishful fantasies. Thirdly, the poor suffer more than necessary.”
Adebayo also shared his thoughts about some economic policies of the Tinubu-led administration, especially after the fuel subsidy removal.
His words:
”At the end of the term of President Tinubu in 2027, ideal macroeconometrics for Nigeria should be 8% unemployment, 4.4% inflation, CRR at 7%, the interest rate at 8%, 3millionbpd (1/3 locally refined), GDP at $760bn, 33% cost of living/wages, year four budget of $74bn, forex at N500/$. Rethink.
”There are at least three models to arrive at above realistic targets, but the least growth-inhibitive model should be adopted. Balancing the books excites accountants, but productivity is the watchword of economists.
”Nigerian people must be allowed to work themselves out of poverty.
”The quick-fix notion of a rich government and a poor population is dystopian and unsustainable. For the government to raise revenue, the people must produce.
”And for people to produce, factor costs must be affordable, with inflation slower than earnings from wages and profits.”
