Members of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Lagos Chapter, on Monday stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest the deactivation of the (RTEAN) Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, which was in September 2022.
This happened after the State’s government told the group to permit peaceful dialoguing instead of confrontation as the matter is presently in court.
The state government said the protests planned by the TUC were a breach of the rule of law. The government noted that “this is an attempt to misrepresent and intimidate the government, given all the efforts that are being made to resolve this issue peacefully.”
In an earlier statement, Information Strategy Minister Gbenga Omotoso insisted there was “no need to protest”.
However, disgruntled lawmakers on Monday stormed the Lagos Assembly Hall in Alausa, Ikeja, carrying placards with various inscriptions.
Demonstrators were seen pouring into the assembly hall and singing unity songs.
