Donald Trump’s account has been restored by Twitch after it was “indefinitely” suspended in the wake of the attacks on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Newsng gathered his ban was reportedly discreetly revoked even though the CrowdStrike disruptions appeared to have destroyed the internet infrastructure.

Now that he’s formally the presidential nominee following this week’s Republican National Convention, Twitch reasoned that this made him noteworthy enough to bring back.

This development follows closely as the former president’s Instagram and Facebook were restored.

Twitch, a streaming service owned by Amazon, frequently makes news when it bans popular streamers, such as Amouranth, Nickmercs, and Kai Cenat, but it also occasionally draws criticism for its uneven application of the rules.

In 2020, Trump’s Twitch channel—which was mostly used to stream his rallies—was temporarily banned for a few weeks.

A Twitch representative gave details to PC Gamer after Donald Trump’s Twitch account was restored, stating that the decision was motivated by the importance of interacting with presidential candidates directly.

“We reinstated former President Trump’s Twitch channel. We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible. Trump is now the official Republican nominee for US president,” a Twitch spokesperson said in a statement to PC Gamer.

“We continue to enforce our Community Guidelines and take necessary enforcement action when we identify violations of our rules,” says the spokesperson.

“Twitch doesn’t have a ‘public figure policy,’ meaning all channels are equally subject to our guidelines, regardless of whether the channel belongs to a public figure.”

We earlier reported that Twitch announced higher membership and gift costs for over 30 areas starting next month, including the US, capping an exhaustingly busy week of price hikes.
