Twitch announced higher membership and gift costs for over 30 areas starting next month, including the US, capping an exhaustingly busy week of price hikes.
According to the company’s post on X, prices for Tier 1 subscriptions will increase from $4.99 to $5.99 per month on July 11—this is the first time Twitch has ever changed prices for US users.
The Amazon-owned company has proceeded with its pricing increase less than six months after announcing that increases to US subscription fees were “extremely likely.”
Twitch said on June 4, 2024, that starting on July 11, sub and gift fees will rise in more than 30 countries.
“We are sending out emails to streamers and subscribers in these areas to let them know,” they stated.
Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and all of Europe are among the nations impacted. In America, a sub currently costs $4.99; however, on July 11, that price will increase by 20% to $5.99.
Twitch claims that neither the cost of Tier 2 and Tier 3 memberships nor the cost of gifting subscriptions will change. The price adjustments only affected subscriptions bought through desktop or mobile web.
“As part of our efforts to help creators build and grow their communities worldwide, the following countries received subscription price adjustments as a part of Local Subscription Pricing,” the company wrote in a support article.
Streamers began to inquire if they would be taking a bigger cut once sub-pricing increased. Twitch affirmed that the increase in sub-costs would eventually result in higher revenue for both parties.
“Streamers will continue earning according to their revenue share (50-70% depending on their current Plus Program tier). Streamers will make more money per subscription with the price increase,” the platform said on X.
