Alex Pereira once again proved why he’s one of the most dangerous strikers in mixed martial arts, stopping Magomed Ankalaev with a devastating second-round TKO in the main event of UFC 320 on Saturday night.
The fight, held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, saw Pereira weather early grappling pressure from Ankalaev before unleashing his trademark power. In Round 2, the Brazilian connected with a thunderous left hook-right hand combination, sending Ankalaev crashing to the canvas. The referee quickly stepped in as Pereira pounced with follow-up strikes to seal the finish.
“I told everyone — I’m not just a striker, I’m a complete fighter,” Pereira said in his post-fight interview. “Ankalaev is tough, but no one can take my left hand.”
With the win, Pereira retains his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, marking his second successful title defense since moving up from middleweight. The victory further cements his legacy as one of the UFC’s elite finishers and a two-division threat.
Ankalaev, who entered the bout on a 10-fight unbeaten streak, suffered his first loss since 2018.
Pereira (14-3 MMA) and Ankalaev (20-2-1 MMA) first faced off at UFC 313 in March of this year, where the 33-year-old Russian emerged victorious by unanimous decision to win the promotion’s light heavyweight world title.
