Days after his formal introduction, Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres has already had an instant and remarkable impact at Arsenal, shattering the club’s record for the most jersey sales of a recruit.
Gyokeres hasn’t yet played a competitive minute for the Gunners. Still, the incredible demand for his No. 14 jersey has outstripped even well-known players like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard.
On July 26, 2025, Arsenal finalised the £63.5 million (€73.5 million) agreement to acquire Gyokeres from Sporting CP. With Gyokeres agreeing to a five-year contract, the transfer fee includes a £55 million (€63 million) fixed fee plus £8.5 million (€10 million) in add-ons.
Before a friendly match against Newcastle United in Singapore, Gyokeres was introduced to a boisterous crowd, igniting fan excitement to a fever pitch.
The fact that he chose to wear the No. 14 shirt that club legend and all-time leading scorer Thierry Henry famously wore is a major element in the spike in sales.
Despite Gyokeres’ alleged preference for the No. 9 shirt (now worn by Gabriel Jesus), the fan base has responded favourably to his adoption of the No. 14, viewing him as the long-awaited answer to Arsenal’s need for a prolific central striker.
A limited-time campaign was introduced by Arsenal to further celebrate his arrival and take advantage of the excitement. The promotion offered free shirt printing for “Gyokeres 14” on any new jersey, which normally costs £16. Arsenal’s online store briefly crashed owing to excessive traffic after this calculated manoeuvre caused a huge spike in demand.
Although final numbers from outside shops are still being gathered, preliminary data from club stores online and in physical locations confirms that Gyokeres’ shirt is in high demand. Since the free printing campaign is still in effect through Thursday, analysts predict that overall sales will increase even more.
